In the UK the guidelines have changed to PMPR which means professional mechanical plaque removal not scale and polish, plaque is the cause of gingivitis and perio not calculus. It’s gold standard and indicated.

I stopped going to the dental hygienist because it doesn’t make sense to me. I have no pain, and when I go, they stab me inside the gums and I bleed like hell, and it hurts like hell. My mind tells me- are you insane?! Stop it now! And that’s what I did the last time. I also tried a few, and it’s all the same. My teeth now don’t hurt me, and I take good care of them- I brush and floss everyday. Stop this insanity
